Bonito ave el trepador azul. Es bastante habitual, pero no fácil de ver. Ha costado un tiempo que visite los alrededores de nuestro hide, pero al final aquí está. ¿Y que hace?. Pues si ampliamos la foto, tenemos la respuesta:

Pues parece ser que le gustan los pulgones verdes que están alimentándose en este cardo. Algo nuevo para mí. Y muy interesante para los que hacemos agricultura ecológica de verdad, de esa que no trabaja el suelo, de esa que confía ciegamente en los equilibrios entre especies. Agricultura como ecosistema.
Veamos entonces. Tenemos aves que les encantan los pulgones. Los pulgones en exceso son un problema en agricultura que es atajado habitualmente con el uso de insecticidas.
Para fabricar pesticidas necesitamos cantidades importantes de energía, contaminamos aguas, aire y tierra cuando los usamos (doy por supuesto que en el proceso de fabricación, lo que se contamina se limpia, lo cual es dar mucho por supuesto). Aguas, aire y tierra contaminadas que nadie las va a limpiar y que van a interferir con multitud de orgnismos vivos más, incluidos los humanos, tú y yo. Y además, esos pesticidas van a actuar contra muchos otros insectos, porque no son pesticidas específicos de una determinada especie.
Y lo más importante, siendo egoístas, las aves son muy buenas buscando pulgones, y no tenemos que pagar por su trabajo!
Aceptar que en nuestro planeta todo está relacionado es imprescindible si queremos soportar con menos sufrimiento el cambio climático. Sí!!. No hacen falta pesticidas. Sólo hace falta equilibrio entre especies. Si no se usan pesticidas, se consume menos energía, se ensucia menos agua, tierra y aire, los cuatro pilares imprescindibles para la vida. Las especies se han regulado entre ellas desde siempre. Dejémoslas que lo sigan haciendo.
Hoy en día está de moda lo ecológico. Pero no necesitamos modas. Necesitamos realidades que funcionen. Y están ahí, en cada momento. Con esta foto tomada desde el hide de Artesoro Baserria mostramos una de ellas.

Let’s see then. We have birds that love aphids. Excessive aphids are a problem in agriculture that is usually stopped with the use of insecticides.
To manufacture pesticides we need significant amounts of energy, we pollute water, air and land when we use them (I assume that in the manufacturing process, what is contaminated is cleaned, which is taking a lot for granted). Polluted water, air and land that no one is going to clean and that will interfere with a multitude of other living organisms, including humans, you and me. And furthermore, those pesticides are going to act against many other insects, because they are not specific pesticides of a certain species.
And most importantly, being selfish, birds are very good at hunting aphids, and we don’t have to pay for their work!
Accepting that everything on our planet is related is essential if we want to endure climate change with less suffering. Yes!!. Pesticides are not needed. It only takes balance between species. If pesticides are not used, less energy is consumed, less water, land and air are polluted, the four essential pillars for life. Species have regulated each other forever. Let them keep doing it.
